Just a quick update for those who want to know how the surgery went on Lang’s right wrist. According to his doctor (Dr. Fraser), it went very well. It took a little longer than expected because once she got in there the fracture was a little more complicated than originally expected. But the plate went in with no problem. She also discovered a hairline fracture in his left wrist but only splint it because she said it will heal fine that way. The splint on the left arm should come off by next week. She has ordered physical therapy to start immediately for both hands and wrists. I just saw him and he seemed to be resting peacefully. He moved his legs a bit but for someone who runs 15 miles a day, I wouldn’t expect him to do anything but move his legs constantly. Please pray that his surgery and tracheotomy goes well and as planned tomorrow and that he gets the rest he needs. I will update everyone on that surgery as I get the information…probably not until after 8pm.
Thank you again for your prayers.
Grace & Peace ~ Carla

That’s great to hear!
I’m so glad his surgery was uneventful. I’m praying for the surgery today. We love you guys.
We are praying for you all and will continue to do so. We are in a Church Care Group with Tim, Jan, Rick and Kathy. God Bless you.
Thank you so much for keeping us all updated. He’s been on our minds and in our hearts non-stop. We love hearing about how well he’s doing and how stubborn he can be also. Jefe & Elise
Our thoughts and prayers are with you …. Dan and Shauna
Kermit,
Greetings from the desert. First I want to start off by saying you, Carla, and the kids will continue to be in our nightly prayers. I shared your story (well, Carla’s story, b/c your skinny butt won’t remember too much of it hopefully) with some of the guys around here and it really helped us put a lot into perspective. I think we get wrapped up in our secret little world and sometimes forget what is really important. While everyone out here believes in what we are doing, your family’s story is one that makes us all remember that while we are there for each other out here on the battlefield, only your family will be there for you night and day and night and day and night and day, by your bedside with tubes hanging out of you, while your being belligerent, bathing you, and caring for you no matter how long it takes. In our world, eventually your co-workers and squadron mates have to go home. Your wife and children will always be there with you. I know we had a number of long talks over beer and coke about priorities a few years ago; the next time I’m with a brother and discussing priorities this is one story I will continue to tell.
Carla, while I haven’t met you, I think that Kermit has met his match. We will continue to pray for your strength, wisdom, and patience along this long road. I just read your letter to Kermit and can’t imagine the strength it took for you (and his angels) to keep him alive and keep yourselves focused on what was important. Thank you for helping keep Kermit around; there is something special planned for him
OK, enough sappy stuff, Kermit b/c you know that isn’t me. I hear you’re pretty swollen; I always thought you looked too skinny, maybe now you look like you some meat on your bones. I had an appendectomy one time (yeah, I know, appendectomy, brain surgery followed by reconstructive surgery, followed by plates in your wrist…it’s all the same) and I was so ready to get home. The Dr. told me I couldn’t leave until I was able to prove I could take deep enough breaths to prevent pneumonia and I could poop on my own. Well, I lied to him on both accounts. I was short of breath and all of the poop built up in me because my bowels weren’t working. Needless to say, I had to go back to the hospital and do breathing exercises and they had to get my bowels working. In order to accomplish both of those I had a tube stuck up my butt to help me poop to work on my breathing I had to suck up two balls through a tube (yeah, I know I’m going to catch crap for that story, but if it makes you laugh, then good).
Seriously, my friend. Tisha and I talk about you daily, and we wish you the best and can’t wait to hear about how awesome your wedding day was (it would be great to maybe even get an invite).
Take care, God Bless and get back to work.
Carla, you’re strength is amazing. I hope to meet you someday soon.
