Today was a monumental day for Lang…after 49 days inside…he stepped outside and took a breath of fresh air. That’s right! He went for the longest walk he has since the accident and we walked him right outside. He stood still for a second, looked around, took in a breath and….then he was ready to [...]

I found the secret to getting Lang to eat and swallow. A chocolate peanut butter milkshake from Coldstone. Oh my Lord…I had never seen his eyes light up like that before nor have I seen him swallow so quickly and with such intent. It was hilarious. It brought laughter to his mom, which I think [...]

Day 46 in the ICU Trauma Center – Las Vegas, Nevada
Today the neck brace came off! Yay! He looks much more comfortable with that thing off. He does have a tendency to lean his head to the right side but the nurses assured me that with physical therapy and some practice that he will be [...]

This year’s Christmas was an overwhelming mix of happy and sad. Christmas is already a very difficult time for me due to the fact that my dad was killed my a drunk driver on Christmas Eve. So sadness is a common emotion for me at this time so this year I was happy and sad. [...]

Today the plan is to decorate Lang’s room with Christmas cheer and annoy the heck out of the nurses and doctors with our corny Christmas enthusiasm. Kevin, Sarah and I got a bunch of decorations and presents for Lang and will do our best to make this Christmas memorable for Lang. I am so thankful [...]

The report from Kevin and Sarah for yesterday was that Lang walked all the way down the hallway and back. Yay! That is a long hallway and I am sure he was super tired after that. He remained fever free all day but not to Palo Alto standards. Only UMC standards. He is still running [...]

It was a wonderfully bright crisp day today. I went for a morning run…begrudgingly…but once I was outside, I was glad I rolled my butt out of bed to do it. I buzzed to the hospital at my usual time and was met with Lang sitting up in the bed. Well, sort of slouchy sitting [...]

Tried to post this late night and had technical difficulties. Lang had a great day yesterday. He passed his swallow evaluation test. He was able to eat chocolate pudding…which he kept in his mouth forever and when I asked him why he wasn’t swallowing it, he said it was because it tasted so good. [...]

Lang was sleeping when I got to the hospital this morning…because he was awake all night! The nurses explained to me that Lang was doing arm and leg exercises all night and did not go to sleep. I think he has his nights and days mixed up. So when I came back tonight to check [...]
