Wishes do come true 12/25/08

This year’s Christmas was an overwhelming mix of happy and sad.  Christmas is already a very difficult time for me due to the fact that my dad was killed my a drunk driver on Christmas Eve.  So sadness is a common emotion for me at this time so this year I was happy and sad.  Happy because my Lang is alive and making progress.  Happy because I had family (Lang’s mom and stepdad) and friends (Kevin and Sarah) here to celebrate it with me.  Sad because I am beyond homesick and not a big fan of Vegas anymore.  Sad because I am tired and selfishly want to snap my fingers and have the man of my dreams come back to me.  However, happiness overpowered sadness this year because I got my Christmas wish…Lang and I took a slow, labored, assisted stroll down (halfway) down the hallway.  I asked him first thing in the morning if he remembered what my Christmas wish was.  He answered, “yes…walk.”  Smiling, I squeeled with joy and asked him if he was ready to give me my Christmas wish.  He said yes!  So with Kevin on one side and myself on the other, we walked down hallway…hand in hand (and hand around waist and hand under arm for support).

Later that day his parents helped him give me another great Christmas moment.  I had stepped out of the room for a brief second and when I returned Lang was sitting up in bed, holding a card for me with an outstretched arm.  I was confused but they explained that the card was for me from Lang.  I opened the carded and giggled and wiggled with glee!  First thing…Lang actually signed the card…”Love Lang”.  :)   Second…and cause for the wiggling…a picture of a very fancy karaoke machine was inside the card.  My present…a karaoke machine!  Woo-Hoo!  Now most of you would think that was a super corny present but those of you who know me well, will know that I L-O-V-E to sing karaoke!  I am not good at all but it is all in the presentation, as are most things in life.  :)   Lang had told his sister that he was going to get me this present for Christmas so Leia took it upon herself to get the family together to get me this present.  I will say it again…Woo-Hoo!  I hugged him so tight and he said, “I love you.”  I said…thank you…thank you…thank you!

We are still waiting for the chest tubes to come out before we can be transferred.  His fever has gone away and hopefully, will stay far away.  His scars are healing well.  He has great movement of his arms and legs.  He is still very weak and struggles with eating and swallowing.  We are working on that everyday.  He still can not get up on his own because of his strength and his equalibrium.  But he has made great progress from six weeks ago.  My Lang is in there and he is fighting to reveal more of that each day.

I hope each of you had a very Merry Christmas!  Thank you for all your prayers.

Grace & Peace ~ Carla

  1. Carla,
Wonderful! I smiled thru the whole post! What a wonderful Christmas present for you! It filled my heart with such joy when he handed you the card. I am thankful for each and every baby step that he has taken. I wish you both a wonderful New Year. I know that spending it at a hospital instead of where you had planned is not what you intended, but think of what a wonderful day it will be when you become Mrs. Lang Charters. Thank you again for the daily posts!
    Sincerely,
    Julie
